Sherborne Qatar has announced the launch of the Sherborne Qatar Girls’ School which will open, in a new building at Al Ebb, in 2020, according to a statement yesterday.
“The school will have the same ethos, values and curriculum as the other Sherborne Qatar schools and, except for some members of the Arabic department, the all-female staff will be British trained and qualified,” it was explained.
“Sherborne Qatar is now entering its 10th year in Doha and has established an enviable reputation with both the Qatari and expat communities for quality, all round British education.
“The 2017 BSO Inspection noted that the school has “a skilled, passionate and genuinely supportive teaching staff” and, “the pupils are courteous and enthusiastic learners … and are proud to be members of the school community.” The 2018 QNSA report noted, “Strength in the quality of the educational leadership, teaching and learning, development and care for learners.”
“Girls at Sherborne Qatar Senior School have always participated with considerable success in all school events. They will continue to have these opportunities at the girls’ school and they will also be able to participate in exchange programmes with Sherborne Girls’ School in the UK.
“Sherborne School UK has a strong educational belief that, for many pupils, single sex education between the ages of 14 and 17 is advantageous, with a return to co-educational education for A Levels. This is the educational philosophy behind the girls’ school.
“The school will open for girls in Years 7 to 9 and Years 10 and 11 will open in 2021 and 2022 for the girls to study IGCSE courses. They will then move to study for A Levels at the existing Senior School, where the exclusive Michael French Sixth Form Centre is to be built.
“Currently, pupils at Sherborne Qatar can choose from 21 AS and A Levels, including Business Studies, Government and Politics and Media Studies, as well as the more traditional subjects such as English, mathematics and science and there are plans to extend this range. Pupils can also study for a BTech Level 2 in Business Studies. Many recent pupils have successfully moved on to a range of top universities around the world.”
Sherborne Qatar is accepting expressions of interest for the girls’ school and these can be lodged with the registrar, or through the website www.sherborneqatar.org
