The country will continue to experience thunderstorms and strong winds until Monday, the Qatar Met department has said.
Doha and other parts of Qatar have been witnessing spells of rain, thunderstorms dust and winds over the past couple of days.
Citing latest weather charts, the Met department on Thursday said the “unsettled weather conditions resulting from an extension of a low-pressure system are expected to continue affecting the country until Monday evening”.
This period will be marked by scattered thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds at times.
This, in turn, will lead to dusty conditions and poor visibility in some areas, the report states.
The Met department has urged people to be cautious, avoid marine activities and follow the latest updates through its official social media accounts.
Friday’s forecast says thunderstorms are expected in some places along with sudden strong winds at times.
Offshore, too, thundery rain and windy conditions are likely today along with high seas.
The wind speed will be 8-18 knots inshore, which may go up to 38 knots during thunderstorms.
In offshore areas, the wind speed will be 6-16 knots, reaching a high of 35 knots during thundery rain.
The sea level, meanwhile, may rise by 9ft.
The detailed forecast says it will be misty in some places by dawn, followed by cloudy conditions and scattered rain.
There are chances of thunderstorms along with blowing dust at times.
Cloudy conditions are also likely in offshore areas, and there is a chance of scattered rain that may turn thundery at times.
The maximum temperature expected on Friday is 34C in Doha, followed by 33C in Abu Samra, Wakrah, Mesaieed and Al Khor.
Thursday, the maximum temperature was 35C in Abu Samra, Batna, Turayna, Karana, Jumayliyah and Ghuwairiyah, while in Doha and Abu Hamour it was 34C.
As thunderstorms are expected to continue until Monday, the Met department has re-issued a list of safety tips on its Twitter page.
The advisory states that people should stay indoors during thunderstorms, close the windows if they are inside a vehicle, avoid standing on roofs or near trees and electricity poles, and stay away from open water sources.
Meanwhile, rain emergency teams had drained out 1.365mn gallons of rainwater from different places in the Al Rayyan, Daayen and Umm Salal municipalities by yesterday afternoon.
Seventy-two tankers and 105 work teams were involved in the operations, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said yesterday, adding that the municipal authorities received 58 requests to remove accumulated water.
