The oozing allure and grandeur of W Doha Fashion Show kicked-off lambently with three local Qatari designers illustrating their latest collections and awe-impelling fashion ruffles plodded over for months, at W Doha Hotel & Residences.
Notable personalities of Qatar and glitterati in the real sense of the word attended the event to witness the aesthetic yet effortless shaped wearable collections, as contemporary cuts met the traditional silhouettes.
The debut fashion show unfurled the traditional and sober designs by Maqdeem al-Naama and Aisha al-Naama, Founders of Maqdeem, Yasmin Mansoor and WAAD Designs. What’s trending for Spring/Sumer 2019? Detailing and couture silhouettes!
All three designers showcased their collections for the Spring/Summer 2019 season. Many of their pieces can be found online via their respective websites and all three designers from time to time showcase their designs at pop-stores around the country, which enable residents to purchase on the spot.
Most of the dress designs carried a fusion of tradition and modern trends. Candy pink, earthly beige, block contours, black and plethora of ruffles in organza and net took over as models sashayed down the runway.
Maqdeem, famous for their abayas, stayed true to their heritage but also to their love of travelling and exploration of different cultures, which was apparent in all their pieces. Where Yasmin Mansour’s innovative designs and futuristic garments are luxurious, yet wearable at the same time, WAAD Designs, went on for a separate approach featuring a mix of unique abayas and capes.
Talking to Community, Aisha al-Naama said, “We’re really proud for being a part of this event that brought local designers together under one roof. It has given us a podium to share our story and journey with the local community who are also passionate about fashion. Our latest collection is inspired by our love for travel and of course our Qatari heritage, and we hope that women who would wear our pieces, would be able to resonate with our story.”
The designer added, “We have a ready to wear label. We showcased 10 different designs, a full ready to wear collection, ranging from dresses to tops, skirts and trousers. The collection is modest wear. It is a mix and match. It is soft and delicate. You can wear it for an occasion or you can wear it casually.”
She said, “The collection is inspired by our environment, from the desert, the sea, and the sky. You will see these elements of nature in our collection and in the tones. They are blue, batch and all the soft colours. We have emphasised a lot on the modest wear because this is one of our main directions. We want to be able to give women an opportunity to dress beautifully in modest wears.”
She further said, “This is our first ever fashion show. We have established our self a brand. We started our brand three years ago. My sister and I are the actual pioneers of the idea and collections. We did not study fashion but we love fashion, aesthetics, creative process and designing. It is part of our lives. The idea of creating something new and different for people has always attracted us to a whole new level. My sister always had the passion to draw and select fabrics, and translate something from a vision to reality. That is how this brand came together. This is our biggest collection to date. We have been having a great response and we plan to have more shows in near future in Doha.”
Commenting on the fashion show, Wassim Daaje, General Manager of W Doha, said, “Our intention at the W Doha is to support the local arts scene and local designers in Qatar. Doha has always been a welcoming city for fashion and encouraging local artists to develop their talent and aspirations. At the W Doha, we want to provide a platform for much-needed collaboration, support and inspiration that ambitious designers and young businesses need to learn and thrive. Fashion is a frontier, it should have no borders.”
