Sean Webber, a South African national, regained his mobility after a successful total knee replacement surgery performed by Dr Emmanuel Tolessa at Aster Hospital, Doha.
Dr Tolessa, a senior orthopaedic consultant and medical director at DOC Medical Centre, performed the surgery using advanced treatment techniques with the support of trained anaesthetists, nurses and other paramedics at Aster Hospital.
The 54-year-old Webber suffered from severe knee pain which had affected his mobility.
An X-ray and physical examinations showed severe osteoarthritis of the knee, which is a common wear and tear process. Having undergone conservative therapy and medications, Webber had no other option but to undergo a total knee replacement, a golden standard for treating such conditions.
Dr Tolessa said, “It has been over a decade for me in Qatar treating patients with arthritic knees and it has been a pleasure seeing patients’ quality of life improve post-surgery.” Dr Tolessa is heading the newly-established DOC Medical Centre which primarily focuses on orthopaedic related conditions.
Webber who is travelling back to join his family was all smiles as he can now walk without support after three weeks of surgery.
Since its inception in June 2017, Aster Hospital in Doha has emerged as a centre with advanced treatment facilities delivering the best quality care to the people of Qatar and has set new benchmarks in treatment of chronic disease conditions.
“It has been a very rewarding period that we had in the last one year. There has been a remarkable growth for healthcare in Qatar and Aster Hospital has emerged as a preferred destination for patient needs. We are especially thankful to the community-based doctors who are associating with us in bringing advanced healthcare services to Aster Hospital”, said Dr Sameer Moopan, chief executive officer, Aster DMH Qatar.
