The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) in co-ordination with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has issued a statement dispelling rumors on social media that sewage water is used for greening the desert.
The statement pointed out that the water used in such places are triple treated sewage water compliant with the Qatari standards regarding the irrigation of green areas, including the lawns. It stressed that such water does not pose any harm to the environment, in addition to its high value as a resource that should be utilised to restore the Qatari open deserts.
Due to the high levels of rain this year, the soil at some of these areas has recently reached a state of saturation. Accordingly, agreement has been made with Ashghal to stop using treated sewage water and use an alternative environment management plan to restore Qatari deserts, taking into consideration the requirements of the vegetation and employing the latest technologies in the field.
