The marathon – an event the telco market leader described as one of the ‘best ever’ – was held on January 11 at MIA Park, and attracted a record numbers of participants and spectators.
Sponsors of the event included Qatar Airways, Huawei, Aspire, StarkLink, AlKass Sports Channels, Aspire Katara Hospitality, Lekhwiya, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Sports for All Federation, Damaan Islamic Insurance Company (Beema), Qatar Athletics Federation, Evergreen Organics, Recharge Qatar, The St Regis Doha, Qatar Museums, Sports Corner, Radio Olive, Radio Suno and Burrda Sport.
Al-Sayed expressed his gratitude to everyone who took part, whether in the marathon or the shorter-distance categories, and to all the spectators who enthusiastically lined the streets of Doha to cheer on the runners and create an atmosphere event for runners described as ‘electric’.
He also offered his congratulations to the winners of the men’s and women’s marathon races, as well as all runners who embraced the challenge and took part.
Speaking about the marathon and the generous support provided, al-Sayed said: “We are tremendously grateful to all the sponsors who so kindly supported this phenomenally popular international event. Their support enabled us to create another incredible marathon event that attracted thousands of Qatari citizens and residents who took the opportunity to race alongside world-class athletes. We thank all the participants, both marathon runners and those in other categories, for taking part and congratulate them on a great performance. We hope they enjoyed a fantastic day out as much as we did.”
As in previous years, and in line with Ooredoo’s corporate social responsibility strategy, all funds raised through marathon entrance fees will be donated to charity.
