Kuwait embassy marks 58th National Day

The Kuwait embassy in Doha marked on Monday the 58th National Day and the 28th Anniversary of the Liberation of Kuwait with a grand reception attended by a number of ministers and heads of foreign and Arab diplomatic missions.

Kuwait ambassador Hafeez Mohamed al-Ajmi received the guests, led by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, HE the Minister of Finance Ali Sherif al-Emadi, HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti, HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali, HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Yousef bin Mohamed al-Othman Fakhro, HE the Minister of Endowments — Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak al-Kuwari, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi, HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani and other Qatari dignitaries and senior officials.

Addressing a press conference, the Kuwaiti envoy stressed the deep rooted and excellent Qatar-Kuwait relations at both the leadership and peoples levels.

He also recalled the important role played by the Qatari forces in the liberation of Kuwait 28 years ago at Al Khafji battle.

He stressed that Kuwait is very keen on maintaining the unity of the GCC and his country is preoccupied with the GCC crises to protect GCC against disintegration or collapse.

Al-Ajmi pointed out that Qatar-Kuwait relations overs many aspects of life as the relations between the people of Qatar and Kuwait goes back to before the 16th century.

It has surpassed official and common interests relations as it is known in the international relationships.

He pointed out that Kuwaitis consider Qatar as their second country and Qatar is becoming a top destination for Kuwaiti tourists.

Similarly, Kuwait has been a favourite destination for Qataris.

On joint investments between the two countries, he said that it has surpassed $7bn at both the private and government sectors, and the trade exchange volume has seen great developments recently. By the end of 2018, the volume of trade exchange between the two countries amounted to QR2.8bn and the number of Kuwaiti companies working in Qatar rose by 34% last year, compared to 2017.

The two countries have maintained a very active co-operation in various fields covering education, defence, sports, culture and investment.

The ambassador stressed that both countries have common destiny to a great extent, and enjoy common culture and heritage that bonds them together.
