Amir, Ethiopia PM focus on cementing ties

Bilateral relations between Qatar and Ethiopia and the ways of enhancing and developing them in various fields, especially economy, investment, tourism and infrastructure, were discussed during a session of official talks between His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali at the Amiri Diwan in Doha on Tuesday.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.The meeting was attended by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and a number of ministers.From the Ethiopian side, the meeting was attended by a number of ministers and members of the delegation accompanying the prime minister.Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali was accorded an official reception upon his arrival at the Amiri Diwan. His Highness the Amir also hosted on Tuesday a luncheon banquet in honour of Dr Ali and the delegation accompanying him. The banquet was attended by HE Sheikh Abdullah and a number of ministers.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani greets Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed AliMeanwhile, Qatar's ambassador to Ethiopia Hamad bin Mohamed al-Dosari stressed that the official visit of the Ethiopian Prime Minister to Doha came within the framework of promoting and strengthening bilateral relations and co-operation between the two countries.In statements to QNA, al-Dosari said the talks covered key issues of mutual concern, mainly with regard to co-operation and co-ordination to achieve stability and ensure peace and security in the Horn of Africa, as well as combating terrorism in all its manifestations.Al-Dosari highlighted the keenness of Dr Ali to build strong relations with friendly and sisterly countries, including co-operation in the political and economic fields, which is consistent with the vision of Qatar, especially in view of the serious political volatility of the Horn of Africa and the Middle East.He also noted that the Ethiopian government's focus on attracting foreign investments and promoting the role of the private sector open up new horizons of co-operation between the two countries. There is no doubt this visit will elevate Qatari-Ethiopian relations to the highest levels, he said.The Ethiopian Prime Minister's visit represents a new qualitative leap forward in relations between the two countries as well as bilateral and reciprocal visits at the level of senior dignitaries and officials of the two countries, notably the visit of His Highness the Amir to Ethiopia in April 2017, QNA said.Besides, the visit will provide new support to co-operation between the two friendly countries, and open up more investment opportunities for mutual benefit, it added.
