Qatar and Greece share many existing investment opportunities in the fields of energy, tourism, hospitality, ports, agriculture, and industry, according to Qatar Chamber first vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari.Al-Kuwari made the statement during the ‘Qatar-Greece Business Forum’ held recently at the headquarters of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) in the presence of Greece-Qatar Business Council & Friendship Committee chairman Panagiotis Mihalos and representatives of 25 Greek companies specialising in building materials and equipment used in construction projects. The meeting was also attended by Greek ambassador Constantinos Orphanides and Ashghal Technical Office manager engineer Ahmed al-Ansari, Qatar Chamber said in a statement.According to al-Kuwari, there are more than 64 Greek companies working in the local market, including eight companies with 100% Greek capital and 56 Qatari-Greek joint enterprises.Al-Kuwari underscored the chamber’s support for efforts that help strengthen the partnership between Qatari and Greek companies in all economic and trade sectors for the advantage of both countries’ economies. He also praised the strong relations between both countries, noting that Qatar-Greece trade volume stood at $84mn in 2018. Al-Kuwari also said there is a “shared desire” for both sides to further enhance cooperation in all sectors.Al-Kuwari said the economic blockade against Qatar “represented a strong impetus for the private sector to increase its contribution to the productive projects away from importing goods from neighbouring countries.”“This has achieved great development in many sectors especially in agricultural and industrial sectors,” he continued.Al-Kuwari called on Greek businessmen to explore investment opportunities available in Qatar and also invited Greek companies to increase co-operation ties with their Qatari counterparts, as well as to establish more partnerships in all fields, especially in construction and building sectors.During the meeting, Ashghal officials delivered several presentations on current and upcoming projects to provide the delegation with details on projects wherein both sides could co-operate.Meanwhile, Mihalos said the meeting helped inform Qatari and Greek companies on the available projects in the local market. He noted that there would be another visiting delegation that specialises in a different sector.
