Members of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) renewed their confidence in HE Dr Ali bin Smaikh al-Marri, unanimously re-electing him as Chairman of the NHRC in its new session.
Dr Mohamed Saif al-Kuwari was elected as vice-chairman of the committee by a majority after the vote for a number of committee members who were nominated for the post.
Mariam bint Abdullah al-Attiyah was also elected as General-Secretary of the NHRC, a rapporteur for the committee.
This came during the first meeting of the fifth session of the NHRC members headed by Dr Yousef Obaidan as the oldest member, in the presence of the bodies represented in the committee from the civil society and the ministries of Interior, Justice, and the Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs.
The meeting then discussed a number of related issues and the members of the Committee were distributed to the three subcommittees: the Reporting and Legislation Committee, the Monitoring and Visits Committee and the Research and Studies Committee.
The members thanked Dr Youssef Obaidan for the contributions and the efforts he has made during his tenure as vice-chairman of the committee.
