The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) on Monday signed seven new contracts of road and infrastructure development projects in Qatar, worth a total value of QR3.2bn. The development projects are part of Developing Infrastructure of Citizens’ Sub-divisions and Roads Projects in Several Areas in Qatar during year 2019.

Ashghal president Saad bin Ahmad al-Muhannadi signed the contracts with officials of the companies concerned. Out of the seven contracts, six were given to Qatari companies while one was signed with a Kuwaiti company. Ashghal's Projects Affairs director Youssef al-Emadi said the signing of these contracts come under a plan to award projects worth QR17bn to serve 24,626 land plots.

The contract for South of Al Meshaf is valued at QR1.3bn. The development projects include three packages serving 993 land plots. These projects feature construction of 119.8km of drainage networks, 55.7km of sewage networks, 26.3km of irrigation networks and 48.7km of road works.

The first package of South Al Meshaf project was awarded to the joint venture of Sacyr and MedGulf for about QR474mn. It will serve 119 land plots. The third package, signed with the joint venture of UrbaCon Trading and Contracting and InfraRoad Trading and Contracting with a value of QR394mn will serve 404 land plots. A fourth package was signed with Al-Sarh Holding Group with a value of QR434mn to serve 470 plots.

The third and fifth packages of Al Ebb and Leabaib project features development of the infrastructure in Al Ebb and Leabaib area, including the implementation of 63km of roads, 102km of drainage networks, 51km of sewage networks and 32km of irrigation networks. These are in addition to building 126km of pedestrian and cycling paths.

The third contract was awarded to Al Darwish Engineering Company with a total value of QR718mn to serve 1,278 Plots while the fifth contract was given to TriConstruct Corporation with a total value of QR395mn to serve 819 plots. A contract with a value of QR472mn for the development of B-Ring Road project was awarded to Al Jaber and Makhloof. It includes construction of 9.1km of roads and expansion of current road to three lanes in each direction. Six intersections will be developed, three roundabouts converted to signal-controlled intersections, and two pedestrian bridges with electric elevators built.

Phase one development of the road development project in South Doha was awarded to Al-Ghanim International Company for QR354mn. The project includes implementation of 9km of irrigation networks, 25km of drainage networks, 20km of roads as well as landscaping and lighting that will enhance traffic safety in the area. Ashghal president al-Muhannadi told the media that HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani has given directives to prioritise citizens’ plot development projects and develop clear plans while keeping commencement and completion dates transparent.

The function was also attended by Ashghal Roads Projects Department manager Saoud Ali al-Tamimi, other senior officials, and Central Municipal Council (CMC) members. Hamad al-Badr from the Roads Projects Department presented Ashghal's plan to award infrastructure projects of Citizens’ Sub-divisions during year 2019. The plan will be implemented in several areas including Al Egda, Al Heedan, Al Khor, Al Kharaitiyat, Izghawa, Umm Slal Mohammed, South of Duhail and Umm Lekhba Areas, in addition to Al Ebb, Leabaib, Jeryan Nejaima, Rawdat Al Jihaniya, North of Ain Khaled, Semaisma, Al Sheehaniya, Al Mearad, South West of Muaither, Rawdat Egdaim, Al Meshaf, Mebaireek and East of Al Wajba areas.

CMC member for Al Hilal Area Sheikha al-Jufairi praised the efforts by Ashghal in materialising roads and infrastructure development projects. She noted that there is a co-operation between Ashghal and CMC members. CMC member from Al-Kheesa, Al Ebb and Leabib Constituency Meshal al-Nuaimi also thanked Ashghal for continuing efforts to develop roads and infrastructure in various areas.
