Being new to the city, my wife and I made a list of places to visit in this amazing capital of Qatar. What caught our fancy especially was the Museum of Islamic Art, a spectacular place scenically located near the traditional dhow harbour. This iconic feature is designed by world renowned architect and Pritzker prize winner, Ieoh Ming Pie. The marvellous standalone museum represents Islamic art from three continents over 1400 years. The park and the C-shaped peninsula around this architectural masterpiece provide a picturesque backdrop. The view of the Doha skyline through MIA arches is magnificent and provides calmness and peace to the stressed soul surrounded by the serenity of the sea. The interior of the museum is no less spectacular with its geometric patterns. It has a unique architecture and stunning collections. An oculus, at the top of the atrium, captures and reflects patterned light within the faceted dome.Located on the first floor is the MIA café, providing luminous interior facing the magnificent exterior skyline. The gigantic 45m window provides the perfect environment to relax and enjoy the food. This museum abounds with knowledge and shares the glory of past and current world around us. The cultural hues, magnificent architecture, serene environment makes MIA a dream come true for the aficionado. — Text and photos by Gopikrishna Narla
