When you’re watching the world go by from skyscrapers, there’s a feeling of being at a vantage point as everything you see is, well, in sight. In other words, the illusion is that maybe you control the view! Depending on where you are and what you see, it may be a sight for sore eyes. The feeling — and view — is slightly more overwhelming when you see the world on top of your head. Skyscrapers have that aura around them — quite like the title of that Pakistani television drama serial aptly entitled Aasman Tak Deewar (Wall to the Sky). It can make you feel small. The storeys, in this case, are just bigger than you!Doha of today is a world removed from its yore. If you want to figure out how ‘small’ you are, you can drive around the business district in West Bay and find out its signature overwhelmicity (a spur of the moment coinage, in case you’re wondering having never heard of it) ! In a couple of mesmerising shots here, you can see the measure of tall: structures all wound up and willing to kiss the sky. It gives ‘head in the clouds’ an altogether different meaning. Provided of course, one does not have batophobia — the fear of being in or next to tall buildings. — Text by Kamran Rehmat, photos by Bosco Menezes
