Traffic Dept continues to spread awareness on curbing road violations
The Ministry of Interior (MoI), represented by the General Directorate of Traffic, on Monday continued its efforts to reduce accidents and traffic rules violations by raising awareness as part of its Accident-Free Summer campaign. According to tweets by General Directorate of Traffic, officials of Traffic Patrol and Investigation Department on Monday organised an awareness drive at Doha Corniche against various violations including stopping in yellow boxes. The officials, during the drive, distributed brochures that featured the rights and duties of drivers on roads.
Marking the campaign, Traffic Awareness Department organised an awareness lecture for trainers at Dalla Driving Academy about common violations.
The campaign launched on July 1 focuses on direct awareness through the deployment of traffic patrols while the prime objective is on making the public aware of the rules of traffic safety and safe driving. ‘Accident Free Summer’ focuses on raising awareness against various violations that include driving without a valid licence, overtaking through the right side, using mobile phones while driving, parking in the places reserved for people with special needs and obstructing traffic by stopping in the yellow box.
The Traffic Department has decided to strictly enforce the law in order to curb the violations by pedestrians and ensuring their safety on roads. Walking in the middle of the carriageway, not using available pavements (sidewalk) and not using the far edge of carriageway opposite to the direction of driving in the absence of pavements will draw fine of QR100.
Pedestrians will be imposed a fine of QR200 if they fail to take required precautions or not use designated crossing areas to cross the road. The fine will be QR500 in cases where pedestrians don’t follow traffic signals while crossing the road at the intersection. The same fine will be imposed if pedestrians cross the roads while traffic police allow vehicles to move or cross military parades and processions by violating directions by the traffic police.
