The unveiling of the 2022 FIFA World Cup emblem has brought joy to Qataris and residents, who flocked in large numbers to the country's landmarks that witnessed the unveiling of the tournament's emblem on Tuesday.

The official unveiling took place in Doha, at 20:22 local time, with thousands of spectators witnessing the synchronised projection of the emblem onto a number of the country's most iconic buildings, including Burj Doha (Doha Tower), Katara -- the Cultural Village Amphitheatre, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) headquarters, Souq Waqif, Msheireb Downtown Doha and Al Zubarah Fort, a Unesco World Heritage site.

Thousands of citizens and residents gathered in front of the MoI building to witness the display of the emblem, as part of the digital campaign, which took place at some of the most prominent landmarks of Qatar as well as in several countries around the world.

They expressed admiration for the unique design of the emblem, which mimics and reflects the overall dimension of the tournament as a platform for gathering cultures from around the world while incorporating elements inspired by the Qatari and Arab culture that harmonises with the components of the game of football.

Speaking to QNA, Qatari Yousef Mohamed al-Yafei, an employee of Hamad Medical Corporation, expressed admiration for the design of the Qatar 2022 World Cup emblem. He said the emblem is very distinctive and innovative, and takes inspiration from the Qatari culture and heritage, a traditional woolen shawl worn by people around the world and in the Arab region and the Arabian Gulf specifically in multiple forms and designs during the winter.

Al-Yafei pointed out that the emblem has a unique design and is testament to the efforts made by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), adding that the opening of the World Cup will be impressive.

He explained that this is not new to Qatar, the "capital of sports in the world", which has succeeded in organising many events and world championships. He stressed that Qatar will organise a wonderful edition of the World Cup that is being held in the Middle East and Arab world for the first time, which is a source of pride for Qataris, residents and the entire Arab world.

As for the Doha Corniche, thousands of citizens and residents, carrying the Qatari flag and chanting in an atmosphere of joy, celebrated the unveiling of the World Cup emblem. They rallied in front of the Doha Tower waiting for the unveiling of the emblem and recorded the historic moments through their phones and cameras.

Speaking to QNA, Hammoud al-Shammari, an employee at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, expressed pride as a Qatari citizen following the unveiling of the World Cup emblem. He said the unveiling showed that Qatar was on the right track to host an extraordinary World Cup edition, adding that he came to the Corniche along with his family to watch the historic event.

In remarks to QNA, Abdul Rahman Nasser al-Maadeed, a host at Al Rayyan TV, the unveiling of the World Cup emblem made citizens and residents feel happy and elated because it is a global event taking place on Arab land for the first time.

He added that he is very happy that the unveiling of the emblem demonstrates the success achieved in Qatar, marked by solidarity and cohesion among citizens and residents. He expressed confidence that Qatar will organise a historic World Cup. Speaking to QNA, Ahmed al-Kaabi, director of an institution, expressed his delight for the unveiling of the World Cup emblem.

Al-Kaabi thanked the officials in charge of sports in Qatar, stressing that the successes they achieve are a source of pride and happiness for all Qataris. Thousands of citizens and residents also witnessed the launch of the 2022 World Cup emblem in the front of the Qatar Archives in Msheireb Downtown Doha (MDD).

The atmosphere at MDD was impressive in the light of the presence of both Qataris and residents who were keen to celebrate the launch of the emblem. Everyone was delighted with the launch of the emblem as an important step on the way to Qatar's hosting of the 2022 World Cup. They stressed that Qatar will fascinate the world by organising an exceptional version of the World Cup, as Doha has "always been the world sports capital".

Speaking to QNA, Mubarak Mohamed al-Buainain, executive director of Contracts and Projects at Msheireb Properties, said the unveiling of the 2022 Qatar World Cup emblem is a historic event. He expressed delight at the unveiling on the facade of one of the MDD buildings, which reflected the great cultural development of Qatar.

He added that the emblem's central form takes inspiration from a traditional woolen shawl, which symbolises all Arab countries, while the number eight is a reminder of the eight astonishing stadiums that will host matches. Al-Buainain stressed that Qatar is used to raising the level of organisation for any tournament and always fascinates everyone by hosting distinctive sports events.

He added that Qatar is set to host many important events this year, such as the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships, the 2019 World Beach Games and the FIFA Club World Cup. Further, al-Buainain stressed that the Qatari preparations for the 2022 World Cup are going well, especially with the opening of two of the eight stadiums hosting the tournament games. At the same time, work has gone a long way at the remaining six stadiums. He expressed confidence that the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be historic in all respects.

Jaber al-Shawi, Operations manager at Hamad International Airport, told QNA that the 2022 FIFA World Cup emblem has impressed the world. He noted that the emblem unveiled on Tuesday does not represent Qataris only, but the whole world.

He pointed out that Qatar reached international level thanks to the efforts of the wise leadership and the efforts of the SC as well as the creativity of Qatari youth on all international forums. He stressed that the state is ready to organise a distinguished edition of the World Cup.

Speaking to QNA, Adel al-Shammari, a pilot, said everybody expected the emblem to be shaped like the World Cup, but the officials in charge of the tournament "surprised us with this good design". He noted that the unveiling of the emblem was special and simple.

Al-Shammari added that the presence of a large number of citizens and residents to see the unveiling of the emblem confirms their eagerness for the World Cup, adding that everyone is awaiting the mascot of the tournament and the opening ceremony, stressing that it will be distinctive and impressive at all levels.
