The follow-up committee of the National Traffic Safety Committee has held a meeting with representatives of Qatar Petroleum (QP). The meeting was chaired by Dr Ibrahim bin Saleh al-Nuaimi, undersecretary at of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and chairman of the committee.
They discussed several traffic safety issues and plans of the National Traffic Safety strategy. Representatives of QP stressed that safety, including traffic safety, is a top priority for their operations.
The meeting reviewed QP's achievements concerning the 28 National Traffic Safety strategies, including the activation of regular training on defensive driving, where the number of trainees increased ninefold compared to 2016 and 2017.
The meeting also discussed measures to implement programmes on traffic awareness in QP with health and safety departments in the industrial operations areas, through workshops and routine meetings. The meeting was informed that firefighters and qualified personnel are available to respond quickly to traffic accidents in all industrial cities, while QP is co-operating with the authorities concerned.
QP representatives proposed a range of programmes and projects related to traffic safety, such as QP national defensive driving course, early road safety education, vehicle surveillance system and other pilot programmes and projects that could be rolled out nationwide.
The meeting recommended the use of QP's experience in implementation of defence driving plan, and the exchanging of experience to the relevant state institutions such as Karwa and Waqod to spread traffic safety practices at the national level.
It was also decided to propose 12 plans submitted by QP to the National Traffic Safety Committee for consideration. (QNA)
