Qatar Rail is showcasing the Transit Oriented Developments (TOD) at the ongoing Cityscape Qatar Conference and Exhibition 2019 at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The event, under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, opened on October 22 and concludes today (October 24).

TODs, Qatar Rail noted, are high density, mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly developments around rail transit stations that act as community hubs with easy walkability, minimal parking and other design features that will enhance public transport use and overall accessibility.

Qatar Rail is developing TOD projects to enhance transit ridership, non-fare revenue, induce economic growth and the private sector engagement.

The projects span approximately 1.5mn sqm over 11 transit stations along the Doha Metro Project lines, and comprise commercial, residential and office spaces.

Qatar Rail had a key participation in Cityscape Qatar Conference and Exhibition 2019.

Qatar Rail added that participants during Cityscape 2019 had the opportunity to visit its booth to learn more about commercial and retail spaces available at Doha Metro stations.

With over 9,200sq m of available retail space across 37 stations, these outlets are considered the first-of-its-kind in Qatar, providing businesses unprecedented new access to railway commuters and their neighbourhoods.

Retail spaces within the Doha Metro Project offer a wide range of integrated and diverse set of spaces to serve the goals of leading businesses.

Business owners maintain a competitive advantage over their counterparts, as leasing costs remain fixed for a period of five years. Through such partnerships, Qatar Rail is able to effectively solidify its presence within the business sector while simultaneously provide new business opportunities to the sector.

Additionally, participants visiting the Qatar Rail booth had the chance to partake in a tour of the Doha Metro Project and various trains through immersive virtual reality technology.

The tour allows the visitor to learn about the project’s full offerings, view the surrounding locations of the stations, and learn how to access the stations through the support services such as Metro Link and Metro Express amongst others.

Cityscape Qatar, now in its eighth year, is regarded as the biggest real estate investment events in the country and presents an ideal platform to network with local and international real estate developers.
