Around 1,800 students, teachers, and administrative staff of 13 public and private schools under the Ministry of Education and Higher Education attended workshops conducted by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Afif Charity as part of the QRCS School Programme during October. In the field of health education, workshops were held on a number of important topics, such as first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid for school injuries, healthy diet, breast cancer prevention, asthma and flu control, avoidance of infections, risks of obesity, and home safety for children.QRCS paramedics and health educators made field visits to the schools and deliver theoretical and practical lectures to raise awareness about how to take care of an injured person, apply first aid and CPR skills, and follow everyday physical health protection guidelines. Some schools sent their students to attend health education lectures at QRCS headquarters, including Aspire Academy and Heteen Model School for Boys. The QRCS School Programme is a unique social development scheme that matches the goals and strategy of Qatar National Vision 2030, especially in relation to the human development pillar. The health programme involves first-aid training and health education on nutrition, hygiene, communicable diseases, home safety, oral health, and other relevant topics. The ‘Safe School’ risk reduction programme seeks to improve community disaster preparedness and effective response; and the ‘Social Peace and Integration’ programme organises lectures to enrich positive values among school students, such as interactive communication, open-mindedness, behavioural discipline, psychological balance, and mutual respect.
