Young people who participate in an array of sporting competitions at Qatar Foundation have had the chance to get a close look at one of football’s most glittering pieces of silverware – the FIFA Club World Cup. The 2019 edition of the international football tournament will be held in Qatar from December 11-21, with Qatari Stars League champions Al Sadd being joined by the champions of Europe, South America, Asia, Africa, North America, and Oceania to officially decide soccer’s club world champions. The FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019 is the 16th edition of the tournament and will see eight matches played in Doha, with the competing clubs being Liverpool, Flamengo, Esperance Sportive de Tunis, Al Hilal, Club de Futbol Monterrey, and Hienghene Sport, as well as Al Sadd. And ahead of the tournament, the trophy arrived at Education City (EC) at the weekend, with school students who participate in the Qatar Foundation (QF) Junior Football League and university students who took part in a range of sporting tournaments organised by QF Community Development throughout the year being able to have their pictures taken with the cup.The trophy was also on display at the Torba Farmers Market and the EC United event – organised by students from QF universities to mark Qatar National Day – at Education City’s Ceremonial Court. “To have a major football trophy at Education City is a real motivation for the young people who play in our junior football league, and for those who participate in the sporting competitions we organise,” said Alexandru Rosca, head of Sports Programming, QF.“We have had a great year of sporting tournaments in Education City in collaboration with organisations such as Qatar Basketball Federation and the Qatar Football Association, as we continue to see the standard of competition rise every year. Concluding the year with the visit of the FIFA Club World Cup is a great way to round the year off.”
