Qatar Rail launched the preview service of Doha Metro’s Green Line and four new stations in the Red Line Tuesday, including the link to Hamad International Airport (HIA).
“The launch of the Green Line preview service is expected to significantly increase the number of passengers using the metro,” Qatar Rail’s Green Line project director, engineer Jassim al-Ansari, said in a statement.
“The Green Line acts as an East and West connection for Doha, and will serve new residential areas and tourist destinations, including Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar Foundation, Qatar National Library (QNL) and Mall of Qatar (MoQ), further facilitating the movement of people to more locations, cultural attractions and lifestyle destinations across the city,” he noted.
The Green Line covers 11 stations from Mansoura in the east to Al Riffa in the west and two interchanges at Msheireb and Al Bidda. It includes The White Palace, Hamad Hospital, Al Messila, Al Rayyan Al Qadeem, Al Shaqab, QNL and Education City.
Apart from the HIA link, Katara, Qatar University, and Lusail also started their preview service yesterday, bringing the total number of stations open across the network to 36. The Legtaifiya station on the Red Line will open next year.
Metro passengers travelling to different stations of the three lines can also board the train going to HIA, except stations which are out of its way. They can seek the assistance of customer service and metro staff at every station.

Passengers are also advised to check the metro’s new and improved 'Plan My Journey' feature on its mobile app and website, which shows the full route to take from their starting point to their destination.
According to Qatar Rail, Green Line will operate from 6am to 11pm between Saturday and Thursday, and from 2pm to 11pm Fridays, as it is with the Red and Gold Lines.
A large number of metro passengers lauded the opening of the new line and other Red Line stations, saying they can now access various locations faster and with ease.
The launch of the Green Line yesterday also saw Mall of Qatar welcoming and distributing gifts to passengers from and to the Al Riffa station, which has a direct connection to the mall.
Meanwhile, Qatar Rail said the opening of the HIA link enables a seamless “Plane to Train” experience for those arriving in Qatar and provides fast and frequent services from the airport to the major cultural, tourist and business districts of Doha.
With all lines running, the Doha Metro now provides a seamless and hassle-free transportation to Qatar residents, as well as domestic and foreign visitors, who want to explore “everything the city has to offer.”
“I am planning to visit QNL first to borrow books, and then do mall hopping, from City Center Doha to Villaggio and then to MoQ, before heading to Katara – the Cultural Village to have some karak and chappati,” said Indian expatriate Punit, who also wants to explore the Gold Line during his weekly off.
Qatar Rail said interchanges are available between the Green and Red Lines at Al Bidda station, and the Red, Green and Gold Lines at Msheireb station. It also stressed that customers are not required to tap in and out when interchanging between stations as long as they remain in the paid area.
All journeys, including those requiring an interchange will cost QR2 in the standard and family class carriages and QR10 in the goldclub carriage. A Day Pass in standard class for all lines costs QR6, while that in goldclub is QR30.
Metrolink, Qatar Rail’s feeder bus service (operated by its partner Mowasalat) will also introduce new routes. Its services provides a seamless facilitator for customers getting to and from metro stations and their surrounding areas.
Qatar Rail said metro customers can view available metrolink routes by downloading the Doha Metro mobile app or by visiting its website.
