His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamed held wide-ranging talks here on Thursday.

During the bilateral meeting at the Amiri Diwan, the Amir and the Malaysian premier discussed ways to further strengthen relations between Qatar and Malaysia and expand the existing partnership between the two countries in various fields.

The Amir and Malaysia's prime minister exchanged views on important regional and international issues, and the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019 scheduled to take place on December 19, in which His Highness the Amir will participate at the invitation of Dr Mahathir Mohamed.

Earlier, during a session of official talks chaired by the Amir and the prime minister of Malaysia at the Amiri Diwan on Thursday, both sides discussed the close relations between Qatar and Malaysia and ways of developing them in different spheres, especially in economy, trade, investments, tourism and education sectors. The session also discussed a host of regional and international issues.

Following the talks session, the Amir and the Malaysian prime minister witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a high-level joint committee between Qatar and Malaysia

The talks session and the signing ceremony were attended by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and a number of Qatari ministers, and members of the official delegation accompanying Dr Mahathir Mohamed.

The Malaysian prime minister was accorded an official reception ceremony upon arrival at the Amiri Diwan.

Following the talks, the Amir hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of Dr Mahathir Mohamed and the accompanying delegation.

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani and several ministers attended the function.
