*335 publishing houses from Arab and foreign countries to participate in the exhibition

Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the 30th edition of Doha International Book Fair will be held from January 9 -18 at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC).
The Fair, which adopts the slogan “Do you then not contemplate" is inspired from a verse from the Holy Quran, is organised by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, under the supervision of the Qatar Cultural and Heritage Event Center, which is keen to utilise all its potentials to ensure the success of the upcoming edition of the exhibition.
The Fair coincides with the launch of the Qatar-France Year of Culture 2020, which will give a greater chance for a significant presence of French participants as France is the guest of Honour at this edition.
Speaking at the press conference to announce the event, Jassem al-Buainain, director of Doha International Book Fair, said that the exhibition activities are scheduled to continue over a period of ten days like the previous editions to give a great opportunity for the visitors to experience a distinguished cultural experience, and to allow publishers to display their diverse cultural releases.
He said that around 335 publishing houses are participating in the event from both Arab and foreign countries besides some children's books. The pavilions booked at the fair amounted to 797 pavilions, in addition to a number of embassies of countries including the USA, Japan, Palestine, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines and Syria , who have booked their stalls. The exhibition will be held from 9am until 9pm, except for Friday from 3 pm until 10 pm, while on Thursday it will be held from 9 am to 10pm.
Al-Buainain pointed out that 31 countries are participating in this edition of the Doha International Book Fair with the first time participation of Belgium and Australia, besides the guest of honour "France".
The number of the pavilions for Arabic books is 559, representing 228 publishing houses, and the number of foreign pavilions is 91 representing 35 foreign publishing houses, while the number of publishing houses for children is 72.
In this edition, Qatari private publishers will have a strong presence . The participants include Lusail Publishing and Distribution House, Rosa Publishing House, Zakrit Publishing House, and Al-Watad for Books and Publications, besides Qatar University, Hamad bin Khalifa University and others.
Radi al-Hajri, Deputy Chairman of the Cultural Committee, said: “We in the Cultural Committee will hold 21 workshops, poetry activities, French musical events, and other activities aimed at enhancing cultural advancement".
The Ambassador of France to Qatar Franck Gellet said : "I would like to express our great pleasure in France being the guest of cultural honour at the 30th Doha International Book Fair.”
He also announced the launch of cultural exchange between Qatar and France, and adopting "Enlightenment" as the topic for this participation in the event.
In the meantime, a number of ministries and governmental institutions will participate in the exhibition, including the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry; the Planning and Statistics Authority; the Police College, Qatar University, the Katara Prize for the Arabic Novel, Qatar Museums; Hamad Bin Khalifa University for Publishing; the National Human Rights Committee, and the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies.
