The Trophy Tour of 2020 Qatar Cup was launched Tuesday.
The tournament’s sixth edition will be held from January 10-17 with the participation of top four clubs from the 2018-19 season QNB Stars League — Al Sadd, Al Duhail, Al Sailiya and Al Rayyan respectively.
The tour was launched at the Al Bidda Tower, headquarters of the Qatar Football Family (Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Qatar Football Association and QSL), in the presence of QFA vice-president Saud Abdulaziz al-Mohannadi and Board member Ahmed Abdulaziz al-Boenain. Also present were star players from competing teams — Paulo Edmilson (Al Duhail), Nadir Belhadj (Al Sailiya), Akram Afif (Al Sadd) and Yacine Brahimi (Al Rayyan) — as well as representatives of the media and host broadcaster.
The Trophy Tour was launched in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and passion for the cup of Pride and Glory. Commemorative photographs were taken with the trophy, players and officials.
Talking ahead of their semi-final against Al Sailiya, Duhail’s Edmilson said, “If we play to our full potential, we’ll win the semi-final against Al Sailiya and qualify for the final. At the same time, the match will be strong as it’s a different ballgame.”
Belhadj, for his part, spoke about Sailiya’s readiness for the competition. “The Qatar Cup has always been exciting mainly because it’s a knockout competition. We will be ready for our match against Al Duhail. We hope to reach the final,” he said.
Brahimi, who made the move from Porto to Al Rayyan last year, said, “This is my first participation in the Qatar Cup. We’re ready to compete with great strength to win the semifinal and thus reach the final.”
The Trophy Tour will continue in the coming days with scheduled visits, which include many public places and institutions, as well as a number of universities and schools, in order to introduce the tournament and encourage fans to be at the venue and support the teams.
