Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) has completed all preparations for the mega event, the Indian Community Festival, being held on Thursday and Friday with the theme, ‘A Passage to India,’ at the Museum of Islamic Arts (MIA) Park. Entry is free. The event is organised with guidance and support from the Indian embassy and Museum of Islamic Arts.

‘A Passage to India’ is also described as a grand culmination to the Qatar India 2019 Year of Culture. The event will be held from 5pm to 11pm on Thursday and 1pm to 11pm on Friday. Free shuttle bus is to run every 15 minutes to and from MIA Park from ICC and Family Food Centre, Airport Road. A replica of the famous Indian monument, Red Fort, is a key attraction. The four-metre-high and eight-metre-long model took 15 carpenters 13 days to complete. The task was undertaken by Viswakalavedi, an associate organisation of ICC.

It was in 1639 that the fifth Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built Red Fort as the palace of his fortified capital Shahjahanabad. The structure has massive enclosing walls of red sandstone. Every year on August 15, the prime minister hoists the Indian National Flag at the main gate of Red Fort.

All the apex bodies of the Indian embassy, such as the ICC, Indian Community Benevolent Forum, Indian Business & Professional Council and Indian Sports Centre will have their presence at the event to highlight their role in the community.

Associated organisations of ICC, such as Indian Women’s Association, Bangiya Parishad Qatar, Rajasthan Pariwar Qatar, Qatar Tamizhar Sangam, Maharashtra Mandal Qatar and Cetaaq will be presenting the specialties of their respective states in their stalls. The event is supported by many establishments, including main sponsor LuLu Hypermarket Qatar, gold sponsors Teyseer Motors & JC Valves, silver sponsors Doha Bank and BDP International, associate sponsors Petrotec, Desert Line Group, Al Tawfeeq Travels, Qatar Oxygen Co, Hempel Paints, Jersey Group, and Naseem Al Rabeeh Medical Centre. A number of food outlets will be providing various Indian delicacies from different states of India. The event manager for ‘A Passage to India’ is Music Lounge Events.
