The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Department of Public Hygiene, carried out a comprehensive cleaning campaign at northern and western islands and across 120km of beaches of the northwest coast. During the drive, 300 tonnes of miscellaneous waste and carcasses of five animals were removed, according to a statement from the MME.

Mohamed Faraj al-Kubaisi, assistant director of the General Cleaning Project, said that the drive was carried out in three phases. The first phase started at Abu az Zuluf and continued until Al-Sulaimi area while the second stage covered the beaches from Al-Sulaimi to Mahish area and from Mahish to Zekreet.
The official explained that these campaigns are aimed at keeping the beaches clean and cover all regions of the country. Al-Kubaisi added that cleaning campaign is given much importance by the MME which has provided all human and material capabilities to ensure the cleanliness of beaches round-the-clock.
The MME has also urged the public to support and cooperate in keeping the islands and beaches clean.
