The third edition of Souq Waqif Honey Exhibition will open tomorrow. The exhibition is organised by the Private Engineering Office (PEO) in co-operation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and with the participation of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment. It will continue until February 8.
More than 150 companies specialising in honey and its products from 37 countries will participate in the exhibition this year, an increase of 25% in terms of participation compared to the second edition of last year.
General Supervisor of Souq Waqif Honey Exhibition, Khalid Saif al-Suwaidi, in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), said that the large participation in this exhibition confirms the confidence of these companies in the local market, and reflects its success to be an attractive destination for companies and those who wish to buy the best product of local and foreign honey.
Al-Suwaidi said that the number of countries participating in the exhibition this year rose to 37 countries, compared to 20 countries in the second edition, revealing that there are 10 countries taking part for the first time. He said that they were keen to choose the countries that have a great reputation in the production and trade of natural honey.
He noted the great demand for registration in the third edition as hundreds of companies registered, but only the best, distinguished and well-known companies were chosen in line with the exhibition goals in offering a distinguished product, and enrich the experiences of the local and foreign participants and in providing an opportunity for the honey production sector to flourish, especially at the local level.
He stated that 80 local outlets participating in the honey exhibition this year are either Qatari farms and or imported local companies. The exhibition constitutes an opportunity for these farms and companies to enhance their regional and international presence through the conclusion of partnerships and deals in this sector, as happened in the previous two versions, he pointed out.
The General Supervisor of Souq Waqif Honey Exhibition stressed the keenness to present a product that meets the highest standards. He said random samples of the offered products are taken and tested by the competent authorities to ensure their quality and suitability for human consumption, in the context of ensuring a high-quality product.
Al-Suwaidi also pointed out that the exhibition will provide an advisory service about treatment using bee products, through an expert specialised in this field. In addition, honey test service for consumers who visit the exhibition will be provided for a small fee.
Regarding the facilities provided to the foreign companies, he stated that co-ordination has been made with Qatar Airways to provide a discount of about 40% for the shipment of honey , besides facilitating customs procedures, providing freight transport to stores, free warehouses to participants, as well as providing free hotels, reception from the airport to the hotel and vice-versa.
