Researchers at Japanese Shizuoka University said that Artificial Intelligence could potentially be used to ‘hear’ smartphone passwords. They found that the sounds of a finger tapping on a screen is enough for AI to correctly guess the numbers entered.
The team says they entered numbers from zero to nine on a smartphone 100 times each. AI then analysed the small differences in sound made when the finger touched each digit on the screen. The program was able to guess which numbers were selected with more than 95 percent accuracy.
The researchers say the layout of the parts inside the phone creates differences in sound and resonance that were detected by the AI.
They say further advancements could see the technology used to steal passwords and that effective security measures will be needed. (QNA)
