He said the airport administration is working to implement advanced security screening procedures for travellers in order to reduce the waiting time at the checkpoints. HIA, according to al-Rumaihi, also has plans to make use of state-of-the-art communication systems to interlink security officials and advanced digital solutions for parking services.
Brigadier-General al-Rumaihi, while noting the expansion is likely to be accompanied by security challenges, stressed that the department is prepared to meet the security requirements in line with the new plans.

“We are ready to secure HIA's expansion and have complete preparations in this matter. We have been keen to take care of every aspect of security. In response to the needs, we have increased the number of surveillance cameras in order to secure the airport from any danger," the official said.

A record 38.78mn passengers used HIA in 2019

The airport security system, according to him, is highly advanced and efficient. It includes external fences and activities that are carried out in co-operation and co-ordination with the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security as a part of HIA borders the sea. These are in addition to the installation of cameras in the departures and arrivals halls and modern devices to communicate with security personnel deployed at the airport.
He added that the inspection of baggage to ensure the safety of flights has become more accurate with the introduction of the advanced X-ray systems.
