Qatar encourages sports to enhance quality of life: Shura Council Speaker

HE the Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim said that the State's support for sports and encouraging all segments of society to practise it is an integral part of its interest in human development as stipulated in the Qatar National Vision 2030.In a press statement on the sidelines of his participation in the activities of the National Sport Day (NSD), he said that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's decision to dedicate a sports day for the State is an affirmation of the importance of making sport a lifestyle.He pointed out that Qatar's interest in sports is in line with enhancing the quality of life of citizens and residents, indicating that this interest comes within the first pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030, concerned with human development, which aims to maintain a physically and psychologically healthy population.HE the Speaker referred to the country's successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, stressing that it has achieved, besides its sporting goals, several other goals concerning bringing people together and promoting communication and cultural exchange.HE al-Ghanim emphasised that NSD is an opportunity to adopt a healthy lifestyle full of activity, exercising regularly, and not just one day a year.HE the Deputy Speaker Dr Hamda bint Hassan al-Sulaiti stressed the importance of activity and sport in human life, noting that the State's allocation of a sports day a year is the best evidence of its interest in directing all segments of society to practise sports and highlighting its importance in developing their physical capabilities and health.She added that NSD highlights the country's interest in everyone's health.HE al-Sulaiti said that having a healthy population is the only way to build a country and preserve its gains, which is achieved through practising sports in line with the pillars of the Qatar National Vision and the sustainable development goals.
