HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said that the leadership and people of Qatar are satisfied with the level of bilateral relations with Germany, looking forward to strengthening and developing them.

At a joint press conference with the German Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas, in Berlin on Thursday, HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said that there are multifaceted partnerships between Qatar and Germany at the political and economic level and at the level of co-ordination in regional issues, adding that the current Qatari-German economic partnership is estimated at more than 30 billion euros, while looking forward to increasing the volume of Qatari investments in Germany, within Qatar's confidence in the strength of the German economy and in the strength and capacity of German companies and their future, expressing his aspiration for more co-operation in various sectors.

HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani noted the very delicate conditions through which the region is going, adding that his meeting with the German foreign minister discussed at length the peace process in Afghanistan and the signing of the peace agreement between the US and the Afghan Taliban in Doha on February 29, hoping that this agreement will be the first step for a sustainable peace process in Afghanistan.

HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani expressed Qatar's gratitude to Germany for its continuous support to the peace process in Afghanistan, pointing out that Qatar, Germany and other countries were key partners in accomplishing this step, expressing his aspiration for continued partnership and co-operation in maintaining and building this agreement to complement the intra-Afghan dialogue initiated by Qatar and Germany in co-operation with other friendly countries. He stressed that Qatar is fully prepared to support German efforts in this regard and work together to achieve the desired sustainable peace in Afghanistan.

He said that Qatar fully supports the German efforts to achieve peace and stability in Libya. "We expressed our support for the Berlin process and the willingness of Qatar to co-operate and support Germany in this path, hoping that the Libyan brothers will enjoy stability."

He stressed that Qatar will carry on its commitment and support to the brotherly Libyan people and its just cause to reach the system of government that they aspire to, adding that Qatar will be the first to respect the choices of the Libyan people.

HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani indicated that the meeting presented an opportunity to talk about other regional issues, valuing the role that Germany plays in the Sudan Friends Group, while pointing out that Qatar is committed to supporting Sudan and realising the goals of the Sudanese people to achieve stability and prosperity.

HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said he was looking forward to completing consultations on other regional issues and matters that are of concern to the Gulf security, and those related to the Iranian nuclear agreement and how to maintain it, calling on all parties to engage in diplomatic solutions.
