The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) on Sunday announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, represented by the Government Housing and Buildings Department, aimed at granting investment opportunities to the private sector owners in the country to offer their properties in preparation for hosting visitors and fans of Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The MoU was signed by HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Yousuf bin Mohamed al-Othman al-Fakhro, and HE the Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Hassan Abdullah al-Thawadi.
On the occasion, al-Fakhro highlighted the importance of this co-operation in creating opportunities for the private sector to contribute to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, adding that the MoU will contribute to maintaining the national economic stability beyond the tournament and will benefit the investors in the country.
The minister noted that through this memorandum, the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs and the SC are seeking to provide housing and all amenities and recreation for the 2022 World Cup fans to have the best residency in Qatar.
He also stressed that the Ministry welcomes co-operation with all parties for the sake of the success of Qatar in organising this championship.
For his part, al-Thawadi said that by providing this opportunity, the Supreme Committee aims to embody the principle of sustainability by ensuring that no useless hotels or residential units are built after the championship, in addition to supporting the national economy by providing opportunities for the private sector to contribute to the preparations efforts to host the 2022 World Cup.
He added that the Supreme Committee looks forward to expanding the residence options for all visitors and fans coming to Qatar to attend the World Cup matches.
This MoU provides owners with the opportunity to rent their properties to the Governmental Housing and Buildings Department of the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs for a period of up to 5 years as a minimum that can be renewed according to the terms and conditions.
The concerned teams in each SC and the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs will be responsible for evaluating the proposed real estate to choose the suitable ones in line with the residence standards of the Supreme Committee.
