Different people have varied tastes in music. Qatar with its diverse demography offers music of all genres from various parts of the world. Here, everyone gets a chance to listen to the music of one’s choice.
There is no dearth of people who love and appreciate Hindustani classical music. It is the art music of northern regions of the Indian subcontinent. It may also be called North Indian classical music. Its origins date from the 12th century when it diverged from Carnatic music, the classical tradition of southern regions of the Indian subcontinent.
After the successful launch event at Katara - the Cultural Village in June 2019 through ‘Unison of Strings and Wind’ – a musical jugalbandhi, and Swar-Sanjeevan, a Hindustani vocal concert held in September 2019 at Radisson Blu Hotel, Beats and Tunes Events, a newly born event management company is ready to host its third event – ‘Mystic Moods, a Carnatic Vocal Concert.’
It is a Carnatic vocal concert by Trichur Brothers – Srikrishna Mohan and Ramkumar Mohan, who are world renowned Carnatic musicians.
The duo began their professional performance in the late 90s’ and within a short span of time they had performed at many stages in many countries. Their composition Namami Gange is the official theme song of Clean Ganga project.
Trichur Brorthers –Srikrishna and Raamkumar – will be accompanied by the renowned accompanying artistes – Trichur Mohan on Mirdangam, Sayee Rakshith on Violin and Venkatasubramaniam on Ghatam. The concert will take place at Giwana Hall in Radisson Blu Hotel from 6 to 9pm on March 13.
Sons of veteran Mridangam Vidwan Trichur R Mohan, the brothers were exposed to Carnatic Music from a very young age. They were named ‘Trichur Brothers’ by Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Kanchi, Shri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal.
The brothers were initially trained by Madurai Shrimati Balamani Eswar and Thamarakkadu Govindan Namboothiri. They received advanced training, with emphasis on manodharma singing, from Professor Neyyattinkara Mohanachandran. The brothers are currently under the tutelage of Padma Bhushan PS Narayanaswami.
Over the years, Trichur Brothers have performed at various prestigious venues, in different countries. They have received several honours and titles, including the Sangeeta Shiromani from Shanmukhananda Sabha, Mumbai, and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi. The brothers believe that music is a great tool to create social awareness and their independent creations – the Namami Gange – anthem for the Clean Ganga Mission has been adopted as the national theme song for the mammoth movement, and Vande Bharatambe, a tribute to the Indian armed forces.
In 2018, they set up the Trichur Brothers Online School of Music, which trains students around the world through a committed faculty. The brothers look forward to bringing their music to new audiences through their concerts and collaborative works.
In a video message shared with Community, the duo is seen saying: “We are delighted to come back to Doha after six years. We will also be performing songs celebrating national independence and commemorating the freedom struggle of India.
“It also is a great moment for us to be back in Doha with Beats and Tunes. The organisers have been very instrumental in bringing Carnatic music to a large audience. We are going to bring something very special to the concert. Towards the end of the programme, we will invite a group of students, who have been learning Carnatic music in Doha, to come along and sing with us on the stage. This sounds really exciting. We have not done this in the past. We are really looking forward to this event.”
Varshini Gopal, Director of Beats and Tunes, said: “She is delighted to host Trichur Brothers in Doha after 6 years and they are outstanding musicians and I am sure the music lovers are in for a treat coming this Friday.”
Gopal Balasubramaniam, chief co-ordinator of Beats and Tunes Events, said: “The first two events hosted by Beats and Tunes were super hit and I am confident that the third event will be equally successful as the artistes are of great pedigree. It’s going to be a unique programme.”
