Jim Rohn, American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker, said, “Don’t wish it were easier. Wish you were better.” If you wish for a lasting success, you have to put some work. Wilder success comes from extreme and unlikely circumstances. No one can deny the role of luck. A man born with a silver spoon does get an edge over a common person, but to maintain that lifestyle still demands effort. Though success is a combination of the right time, the right connections, the right genes, and many other unpredictable factors, but preparation is the one that takes the lead. You may get a chance to work on a bigger platform but you can’t sustain it if you don’t spend your energy to meet the necessities of that job.
I raise a question for those who speak in favour of luck than hard work. If luck is the integral part of success than how do the people of the same class, having the same level of education, growing up in the same environment, born with similar genes don’t show the same result? That is because it is more about your preparation and your capability to grab the opportunity at the right time.
As a matter of fact, you may have not planned for your current situation of being successful or unsuccessful but from the very next moment, you, your habits and your passion decide your path to success. This well said quote, “The more time passes from the start of a race, the less the head-start others got matters” precisely describes the role of hard work with the passage of time. Your current trajectory is far more important than your current results. Bill Gates wouldn’t have launched Microsoft at the right time, if he hasn’t worked hard to make it.
Thomas Edison said, “The three great essentials to achieve anything worthwhile are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.” If you want to achieve something meaningful you have to work hard for it. You can get shortcuts by your good luck, however, it still depends on how actively you take that path. Thomas Edison’s bulb wasn’t his luck, it was his hard work and determination. Picasso’s fame and success wasn’t the gift of destiny, he practiced and worked as his estimated number of artworks are around 50,000.
“There are no short cuts to success, hard work is smart work” Jonah Engler said. Sometimes we think that, that man is lucky, he got the chance to head this project, luck may have some role but it is his passion and enthusiasm to work that lead him to a better project. The more you work, the more you get opportunities.
Say no to the distractions and stop blaming luck for your career. Gear up, stay focused and consistent with your struggle for your desired outcome. Patience is the key to paradise. Work hard and smart. Success couldn’t be achieved overnight, it has to be earned.
