St John's Eye Hospital in the Gaza Strip conducted 3,020 eye operations and medical procedures for ophthalmic patients as part of the Qatar Fund for Development's (QFFD) $2mn grant to the hospital.

The two-year grant started in May 2019, with the aim of contributing to the costs of eye and surgical services for needy cases coming to the hospital. This grant, which is supervised by the Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza, comes in light of the deteriorating humanitarian conditions experienced by the residents of the Strip and the urgent need to support the health sector.

HE the Chairman of Qatar's Gaza Reconstruction Committee ambassador Mohamed al-Emadi said that this is the second grant offered by the fund to St John's Eye Hospital. Earlier it also provided a grant of $2mn to establish and equip the new existing building for the hospital branch in Gaza, which was named after His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, and was opened in 2016.
