* Winds to turn northwesterly from Sunday, temperature to drop

Thundery rain is expected in some places on Friday along with sudden strong winds by the evening, the Qatar Met department has said.

Offshore areas, too, are likely to see thundershowers on Friday along with windy conditions and high seas by the evening.

"Chances of rain over the country (are) expected to return in the next two days (Friday-Saturday), becoming thundery at times and accompanied by hail and strong dust-raising winds in some areas. Kindly be careful, avoid going to sea and stay tuned for latest updates," the department tweeted on Thursday.

The weather office has also said the wind direction is expected to shift to northwesterly from Sunday (March 22) and a slight drop in temperature is also likely.

From Sunday, the wind speed will range from 12-22 knots, going up to 26 knots. This will cause blowing dust, especially in the open areas.

In addition, a relative drop in temperature is expected on Sunday and Monday (March 23) compared to previous days, with the maximum ranging from 22-27C in different parts of the country and the minimum from 15-19C, which is considered the normal range for this time of the year.

The sea will not be suitable for marine activities and the wave height is expected to exceed 10ft. "Therefore, the Met department calls upon everyone to avoid going to sea and follow the latest weather updates through its official accounts," the report added.

Meanwhile, Friday 's detailed forecast says the wind speed may go up to 25 knots inshore and 23 knots offshore during thundery rain, with the sea level rising to 7ft.

It will be misty in some places at first, followed by cloudy conditions at times. There is a chance of scattered rain, which may become thundery in some places by the evening.
