The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has achieved over 1mn man-hours without loss time injury (LTI) since it started implementing the works of the Industrial Area Sewage Treatment Works Design and Build Project (Third Expansion).
According to a statement yesterday, Ashghal, represented by Drainage Networks Projects Department manager engineer Khalid Saif al-Khayareen, honoured the project contractor, Larsen & Toubro Ltd, for this achievement.
Al-Khayareen said this an important achievement and it reflects Ashghal’s constant keenness to co-operate with project contractors in order to implement the highest safety standards in the workplace. “There is no doubt that safety specifications are one of the most important criteria that the Authority takes into account when qualifying and selecting contractors.
“These are in order to ensure the protection of workers from injuries resulting from work hazards. The authority also asks contractors to keep a set of standards and requirements that must be available at work sites during the implementation of projects in order to protect workers as well visitors of the areas covered by the projects,” the Ashghal official said.
Ashghal started implementing the third expansion for Industrial Area Sewage Treatment Works Design and Build Project in November 2018. Around 48% of works are completed so far and the project is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021.
The project is located approximately 2km South West of the Doha Industrial Area. It’s part of Ashghal’s plan to implement a series of expansions to the sewage treatment plant in the industrial area. The operations were started at a capacity of only 12,000 cu m/day. Ashghal implemented two expansions to the treatment to reach a capacity of around 60,000 cu m/day in 2017.
The Third Expansion project is aimed at increasing the Doha Industrial Area sewage treatment plant capacity up to 90,000 cu m/day. The plan includes another expansion in the future to reach a total capacity of 120,000 cu m/day.
