Qatar is playing a very important role as a global aviation hub, both ensuring people can return home and by carrying critical medical supplies and food, Australian ambassador Jonathan Muir has said.
“My team and I are supporting other embassies around the region in their efforts to help Australians return home by Qatar Airways,” the envoy said in a statement.
“We are also continuing to support Australians living in Qatar, as well as the many transiting Hamad International Airport, with any urgent consular needs,” said Muir, adding that he also tries to find time to help with the kids’ home schooling.
He stressed that the embassy team remains available to the 3,000 Australians living in Qatar. The envoy can be reached through his Twitter handle @AusAmbQatar and via the webpage of the embassy.”
“My message has been consistent – Australians who are considering returning home should do so while options are available. For those who have made their decision to stay in Qatar – please follow the direction of Qatari authorities and only obtain information from official government sources,” Muir added.
“This is an extraordinarily difficult time for the whole world. All governments are having to make difficult choices, very quickly, to protect both the health of their citizens and residents, as well as to protect their economies,” he said. “We are all in this together. My family, staff and I are grateful for the efforts of Qatari authorities to overcome this pandemic.”
