The ongoing inspection campaign at workers’ accommodations is mainly aimed at ensuring that they strictly comply with health and safety standards while housing the appropriate number of workers based on the space available to ensure physical and social distancing to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Mohamed Ali al-Meer, general supervisor of the joint campaign being carried out by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA), in co-operation with the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Municipality and Environment to detect violations at workers’ accommodations, stressed this while speaking to Qatar TV.
The inspectors taking part in the campaign focus on the above-mentioned issues in addition to relevant hygiene standards. The first phase of the campaign has focused on different areas in Doha city as part of a scheduled plan to cover more places.
Besides, MADLSA officials maintain constant communication with owners of companies to urge them to provide workers with proper accommodation compliant with the stipulated standards and requirements, while especially avoiding overcrowding in the present circumstances.
The violating housing units are given a grace period to rectify the situation and the inspection team conducts follow-up visits to such places to ensure compliance.
Al-Meer said in case the number of inhabitants has to be decreased through evacuation, alternative locations are available where the affected workers can be shifted.
He noted that the main conditions to issue necessary approvals and licences for a company by MADLSA is to provide adequate workers accommodation that comply with the set standards and regulations.
