Inspections carried out by Doha Municipality in different parts of the city resulted in the closure of 33 food establishments in April for violation of administrative decisions, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported Sunday.
The outlets were closed for periods ranging from five to 30 days.
The municipality conducted a total of 2,363 inspection visits to food establishments in various regions of Doha last month, which led to the issuance of 80 violation reports.
Doha Municipality, represented by the Health Control Section in the Municipal Control Department, has prepared a work plan that includes intensifying inspection campaigns at food establishments during the holy month of Ramadan and ensuring that all institutions comply with the relevant health standards, the QNA report states.
In a statement, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said civic inspectors, in partnership with the authorities concerned at the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Commerce and Industry, are conducting joint campaigns at food establishments in different parts of Doha.
Inspectors working at checkpoints in the Industrial Area inspected about 15,000 food transport vehicles in April and recorded violations against two of them for their failure to comply with health requirements pertaining to the transport of foodstuffs. The seized food items were destroyed immediately.
Also in April, the municipality examined 112,844 carcasses and destroyed 1,330 whole carcasses unfit for human consumption, while there was a partial destruction of 3,065kg of meat. This was in addition to examining 37,525kg of fish, with 81kg being destroyed for not being suitable for human consumption.
