Thousands of community members have taken part in the Qur’anic Botanic Garden (QBG) Ramadan activities this year, which have included webinars, informative Instagram sessions, and daily competitions.
Among the activities marking Ramadan was a QBG webinar addressing Qatar’s food security strategy and the continuity of its agricultural production and supply operations amid the Covid-19 pandemic. A second webinar shed light on the numerous ways that medicinal plants can assist in boosting the immune system.
The webinars brought together panellists from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Qatar University, and Qatar Development Bank, among others, and collectively drew audiences of over 1,000 participants, who were able to actively engage through questions during the live stream.
Every day, nearly 500 people take part in QBG’s prize competitions, which encourage members of the community to answer questions on verses in the Holy Qur’an related to the environment and botany. The competition continues until May 22.
In addition, QBG held informative and interactive Instagram Live sessions outlining various topics of interest related to the garden and showcasing its impressive collection of botanical books and publications.
Fatima al-Khulaifi, director, QBG, said, “We have been thrilled by the public’s enthusiastic response to our specially organised activities during the Holy Month of Ramadan. It is truly heartwarming to see this level of interest in QBG’s work and such widespread appreciation for the team’s innovative efforts during this spiritual period.”
