Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality's Health Control Section has intensified inspection campaigns on the food facilities and outlets within its jurisdiction as Eid al-Fitr approaches.
The surprise inspections are conducted on day and night shifts across areas that see higher demand during the final days of the holy month of Ramadan.
Sweets and nuts shops, slaughterhouses, catering kitchens, consumer complexes and similar places are covered under the campaigns to ensure the safety of food items on display and the commitment of retailers and their workers to follow the necessary health and safety conditions.
Meanwhile, the veterinarians and health staff of the municipality have continued their inspection campaigns on the various slaughterhouses to check the quality of the livestock carcasses and that of the fish at Al Khor fishing harbour, in addition to the poultry shops and food factories in the area to ensure health regulations are followed strictly.
As for the work plan for the Eid holidays, nine veterinarians and agriculture products inspectors have been assigned the task of continuing the inspection works at the slaughterhouses, fish market and other related places in Al Khor, in addition to respond to the complaints of the people.
Throughout the month of Ramadan, Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality conducted 970 inspection tours, which resulted in issuing 16 violations report according to law no 8 for 1990 on the regulation of human foods control.
Besides, six administrative decisions were issued to shut some food outlets, and 6,150 slaughtered livestock carcasses were checked with 93 destroyed for being unfit for human consumption. Further, 688,758kg of fish were checked and 1,117kg destroyed for the same reason.
