The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) is actively engaged in maintaining the parks that remain closed after the preventive and precautionary measures against Covid-19 came into effect in the country.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah, quoting a source within the MME, reported that regular maintenance works are carried out at 98 parks where employees are deployed. The works include daily caring of the plants, watering and irrigation.

In order to ensure proper protection from the Covid-19 virus, the workers at parks have been given protective clothing including gloves and masks. The parks are also regularly sprayed with disinfectants.

The source added that works by the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) are progressing at various parts of the country to set up new generation parks with the latest specifications. These parks, to be run by the MME, are expected to have many unique features.

Ashghal has started the construction of three public parks including the development of Rawdat Al Khail Park (Al Muntaza Park), and new parks at Al Gharafa and Umm Al Seneem. Besides, works of Al Daayen park Development Project, as part of The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads & Public Places in Qatar, have also been started.

The designs of these parks ensure the provision of social, environmental and recreational benefits to the neighbourhood. The attractive design will also attract visitors and tourists, especially on account of the large spaces allocated for the green arena and planting hundreds of trees.

The parks are developed to make them tourist and leisure destinations serving the residents of the respective neighbourhoods in particular in addition to other residents of the country and tourists in general.

Implementing the first package of the Ras Bu Abboud Beach development project, as part of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, has also been started.

The Public Parks Department at the MME assesses the needs of municipalities for public parks, gardens, green spaces and urban beautification plantations work in streets and squares. Preparing and reviewing studies and drawings for city beautification projects, parks and public parks are carried by out the department.

The types of trees, seedlings and flowers that can be grown in parks and public parks and their production are also selected through these studies.
