QIASS organises workshop on bilateral Qatar-US hostage recovery exercise

A workshop entitled the bilateral Qatar-US hostage recovery exercise started on Sunday at the officers' club in the Internal Security Force camp (Lekhwiya), organised by the Qatar International Academy for Security Studies (QIASS) and will continue for three days.The Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Interior, the State Security Agency, and the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) will participate in the workshop from the Qatari side, while representatives of the Department of State, the Department of Defense, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will participate from the American side.Participants in the workshop will discuss the various hostage recovery operations, including methods and tactics of negotiating with the kidnappers, how to communicate with the media during these events, as well as learning about the latest techniques and technology used in the field of combating terrorism, methods and mechanisms of military intervention during hostage recovery operations, and the latest methods used in their recovery.During the opening of the workshop, Inspector General of the Lekhwiya force Brigadier General Hamad Hassan Al Sulaiti noted the cooperation with the United States of America in convening the workshop, appreciating the role of the American embassy in organizing it and welcoming the participating American delegation.For his part, Ambassador of the United States of America to Qatar Timmy Davis valued the keenness of the State of Qatar on hosting such joint workshops and exercises between the two countries.He stressed the importance of organizing such meetings and courses regularly to share and exchange all the experiences and successes that have been achieved in the past years in the field of combating terrorism, hostage recovery, and the mechanism of dealing with such cases, as well as the internal and international coordination methods.The opening of the workshop was attended by Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs of the United States of America Roger Carstens and a number of senior leadership from the security authorities participating in the exercise, which is the first of its kind between the two sides.
