Qatar Scientific Club (QSC) has devised a protective suit equipped with battery operated respirator for healthcare workers, as part of its contributions to support the country’s efforts to combat the spread of Covid-19.
The new suit's portable respirator purifies and filters the air that the user breathes. There is an indicator that shows when the battery is low or the incoming air is not sufficient for any reason.

The headpiece of the suit seals the user from the surroundings to protect from any potential infection while providing clear vision.
The new suit, which can be easily sanitised and disinfected, has been tested intensively to ensure that it is practical and free from any defects, QSC explained in a statement.
Maintenance also is easy and very low cost, in addition to the long life of its battery, which can be easily replaced when needed.
QSC executive manager engineer Rashid al-Rehimi, recalled that since the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak in Qatar, the Club has been actively trying to use all its available resources and capabilities to help in the efforts of the country in this regard.
"QSC has designed and made various protective devices such as the face shield distributed at entities such as Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar Red Crescent Society, Aspire Academy, and some secondary schools across the country, in addition to a medical face mask, and a safe assistant robot," he pointed out.
Regarding the new suit, al-Rehimi stressed the importance of developing and supplying such a devise locally at this juncture as it has become difficult to import such machines in a timely manner.
Accordingly, the new suit was developed and built by local expertise and potential in co-operation with a number of entities concerned in the country.
The QSC official also welcomed any support from the entities willing to take part in helping to produce the new device as it has various uses in the medical and security fields, especially during emergencies and disasters.
In the meantime, a specialised team of doctors from HMC, who visited QSC Monday, were introduced to the new device and their remarks and technical reviews discussed accordingly. They also expressed their appreciation for such an innovation.
Dr Nasser Ali al-Ansari, Head of Infection Control at HMC, described the new device as excellent with better technology than what is already available at the market. It is also a comfortable suit for the user with more durable battery, he added.
