Some 20 people, each of whom had lost one of their eyes because of direct injuries, benefited from a prosthetic eye project implemented by Qatar Charity (QC) in co-ordination with the Ministry of Social Development and organisations specialised in rehabilitating the visually impaired in the Gaza Strip.
"The project contributed to easing the economic burdens on beneficiary families with the visually impaired, in addition to providing them with glass eyes to improve the aesthetic shape of their faces due to their inability to purchase and instal these eyes," QC said in a statement.
The project also brought about a change in the lives of the visually impaired by improving the aesthetic facial shape. Besides, the beneficiaries of this project were also trained to take care of the glass eyes by the manufacturer.
The beneficiaries expressed delight at getting the prosthetic eyes installed. “I am very excited to see the reaction of my child and my husband, who are waiting for me outside the examination room," said a female beneficiary of the project while she was looking at herself in the mirror.
"I used to feel very shy while walking down the street due to the deformity in my face caused by losing my eyes, but now I am ready to go outside without feeling shy,” she added.
