Hassad, Qatar’s premier investor in the food sector, has announced the reopening of Al Sailiya Central Market from Wednesday in line with the government's plan to gradually lift the restrictions imposed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Aswaq for Food Facilities Management, a subsidiary of Hassad, has taken all precautionary measures in co-ordination with the Ministry of Public Health to prevent the spread of the virus in the central market.
Starting with the complete sterilisation of the entire market to holding briefing sessions with all traders and suppliers to organise the workflow and to ensure that the health and safety procedures are followed, all necessary steps have been taken, Hassad said in a statement Tuesday.

Al Sailiya Central Market is an integrated marketing platform that includes a traditional market with 52 shops, a retail market with 102 shops and a wholesale market with 50 shops. Moreover, the central market includes an auction hall for local and imported fresh produce, which spans over 8,000sqm. The market also includes cold stores that span over 4,600sqm, as well as 10 shops for fish, meat and poultry products, a hypermarket (4,800sqm) and a dedicated space for ration commodities.
Located at a central site, around 25 minutes away from the heart of Doha, Al Sailiya Central is spread over approximately 100,000sqm. All its sections are air-conditioned to serve the needs of the trader, producer and consumer, the statement adds.
On Monday, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry had announced that all commercial outlets will be allowed to resume their operations at Al Sailiya Central Market and several other 'street markets' from Wednesday.
