The second high-level forum of the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS) will begin on Sunday, organised by the Ministry of Municipality in cooperation with the IOFS and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on the sidelines of the 6th IOFS General Assembly meeting, headed by the State of Qatar.The forum is a dynamic platform for multi-stakeholder dialogue, focusing on advanced agricultural technology, research, smart farming, food supply chain transformation, strategic partnerships, and youth empowerment for sustainable food systems.The forum, which will be held during the period from October 1-3, 2023, will tackle a number of issues related to enhancing food security in the Islamic world, including the participation of civil society in combating food insecurity, advancing sustainable agricultural technology for food security, and strengthening food markets within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.In its statement, the Ministry of Municipality said that the forum will begin with an expanded media session entitled "Media Synergy in Food Systems," in which food security and media experts will discuss the role of the media in enhancing food security in OIC countries and stimulating meaningful partnerships in this field.The forum will include holding three sub-forums. The first will address advancement of sustainable agricultural technology for food security, focusing on the pivotal role of technology in enhancing agricultural productivity and stabilizing food supplies, while the main sessions will include discussions on water management techniques and organic agriculture, emerging technologies in food production, policy frameworks for agricultural technology.The 2nd High-Level IOFS Forum will review topics related to developing agricultural technology in order to achieve sustainable food security, with experts and officials discussing water management techniques and innovations, good food agriculture and climate-smart agriculture, enhancing agricultural food production through emerging technologies, and public-private sector partnerships for enhancing technology-based solutions.During the second sub-forum in-depth panel discussions will be held on the involvement of civil society in combating food insecurity, the empowerment of women in the agricultural sector, urbanization and rural transformation and their implications for food security.The third sub-forum will be on strengthening food markets within the OIC, to enhance trade and cooperation, achieving a greater degree of food security.The forum will cover topics relating to national food industry development, food industry investments, and regional agricultural food projects, with the participation of 26 speakers from 23 member states.The IOFS is an OIC affiliate specialized institution, dedicated to enhancing food security and agricultural cooperation among OIC member states. It was established to address member food security challenges, to find sustainable solutions and to enhance cooperation, ensuring access to safe and nutritious food for all.
