KPMG in Qatar provided an overview of ‘Dhareeba’, which is the new tax administration system of Qatar’s General Tax Authority (GTA).
In this connection, KPMG held a webinar to share knowledge and experience around Dhareeba registration.
The webinar gave attendees an overview of Dhareeba, its features and how to access as a taxpayer or as registered employee, current registration requirements and deadline for taxpayers in Qatar and future potential aspects of Dhareeba as a sole tax administration system.
The webinar was carried out by the following KPMG panel of experts: Barbara Henzen, partner and head (Tax and Corporate Services); Imran Ayyub, senior manager (Tax and Corporate Services); Abhishek Jain, senior manager (Tax and Corporate Services) and Nurlan Sadraddinzade, manager (Tax and Corporate Services).
As per the Circular No (3) issued by the GTA on June 30, the registration stage for the new tax administration system named Dhareeba went live on July 1, 2020.
The circular states that all taxpayers, including those currently registered in the TAS, are required to be registered in the Dhareeba portal according to the procedures and controls in effect.
The first half of the event was spent introducing the landscape of the new Dhareeba system. In addition to Dhareeba, Ayyub highlighted other key tax updates in Qatar.
He explained some main issues relating to the exemption of Qatari companies, listed companies and upcoming transfer pricing decision. Ayyub also discussed the cabinet resolution about the formation of a tax appeal committee and its terms and conditions.
Some key actions required from taxpayers were addressed in the event and the panellists stressed the importance of ensuring that the authorised representatives are registered with the National Authentication System and the completion of the registration process in order to mitigate any potential risk and avoid possible penalties.
Sadraddinzade said, “It should be noted that all businesses are required to register in Dhareeba and get their TINs as well as Tax Cards. Companies or authorised signatories can login to Dhareeba website and initiate registration accordingly.”
Henzen mentioned that the new tax system of the GTA will bring its enhanced features and create possibilities for users, tax officers, and other government authorities.
Jain said Dhareeba is an integrated digital platform for managing tax transactions and provides the GTA with digital channels to serve all its partners. He explained that Dhareeba will allow taxpayers to assign tax agents for tax services who can accordingly manage the taxpayer’s account data. The panellist concluded by saying that these new features should be of great help to taxpayers and tax agents in Qatar and will allow taxpayers to have a dashboard view of their compliance status in Qatar.
