Al Shaqab Racing’s ever-consistent Duhail was back in the winners’ enclosure at Deauville in France, winning the Prix Le Comptoir Et La Table (Prix d’Hudimesnil) by a length and a quarter yesterday.
Trained in Chantilly by Andre Fabre, this four-year-old gelding has only once been out of the money in his career and today was his fourth win.
Ridden here by regular jockey Vincent Cheminaud, the race was run over 1,300m on the fibre-sand track. He sat in mid-division through the early stages and the turn with plenty of cover. He began to make up ground coming out of the final turn.
Coming down the centre of the track in the home straight, he showed his smart acceleration to take the lead and, justifying his favourite status, secured a comfortable victory. We Go finished in second, with Repertoire in third.
Bred by Lynch-Bages and Camas Park Stud, Duhail is a son of Ballylinch Stud’s leading sire Lope De Vega. Single, his dam, was runner up in the Prix d’Aumale (Group 2).
The second dam produced four Stakes performers, including Zantenda, third in the Qatar Prix Marcel Boussac (Group 1). He was bought at the Arqana Breeze Up 2018 by Al Shaqab Racing.
