*Foreign Policy magazine report backs Kuwaiti Amir's assertion that mediation succeeded in thwarting the military threat
*False charges levelled against Qatar to justify blockading countries' "gambling irresponsible policy"

The blockading countries levelled unfounded charges against Qatar only to mask and justify other targets like gambling with the future of the region and its people, a senior official has said.
In a series of tweets (in Arabic), HE Ambassador Ahmed bin Saeed bin Jabor al-Rumaihi, Director of the Information Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the new revelations made by the Foreign Policy magazine affirmed Qatar's position from the start of the blockade in June 2017.
"Since the very beginning we have affirmed that the charges that the blockading countries tried to hurl against us were only to create justifications to achieve other targets that gamble with the future of the region and its people," he said.
According to an article published by the US-based magazine, "During a June 6, 2017 call with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, US President Donald Trump firmly rejected a Saudi proposal to invade Qatar. Soon after, the United States requested Kuwaiti mediation with the goal of resolving the conflict within the confines of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)."
Referring to this, HE al-Rumaihi said: "It is unfortunate that the military option was adopted by a GCC country against another member country. The irony is that the GCC (organisation) itself was originally established to promote collective security and building a coalition of the members."
What the American Foreign Policy magazine wrote about the US rejecting Saudi King Salman's suggestion regarding the invasion of Qatar, is considered a shocking revelation about a GCC member country.
This is the latest in a series of reports that unveil the anti-Qatar quartet's plans to launch a military operation against Qatar after Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt announced a blockade against Doha in June 2017.
HE al-Rumaihi said : "The military option, which was considered by the siege countries, violates international law and all international conventions, which we have approved as a member country of the UN, to resolve disputes peacefully. It also clearly indicates a 'gambling irresponsible policy', similar to that which led the region to a state of instability in the beginning of the 1970s.
"The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia not denying the report of the US magazine until now indicates the reality of what had happened, which is a very risky issue considering the stability of the region.
"The military option revealed by the magazine enhances what His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabr al-Sabah had said at a joint press conference with the US President Donald Trump at the White House on September 7, 2017, on the success of the Kuwaiti mediation in stopping the military intervention against Qatar."
